10 ways to help you stop being Negative

Updated: Mar 7

Negative Thoughts Destroy your Personal Growth

Hi all, here's another few tips to help you Grow and Progress. Possibly the biggest obstacle to Person Growth I have found in my Coaching clients is that they have a Negative Mindset.  This just simply has to be changed. Positive thinkers didn’t become positive people overnight. It’s not like they went to sleep one night as negative thinkers and the next day they woke up thinking positively all the time. Learning how to think positively is a work in progress, you’d need to invest the time and effort to train yourself to let go of your negativity. Here are ten tricks you can start practicing today to help you master positive thinking in no time at all.

  • 1. Embrace the morning ritual habit

Many successful people have a morning ritual habit, so if you ever want to achieve your dreams, you should work on acquiring this habit as well. You’ll learn to sleep early so you can wake up early in the morning, too. You’ll learn to do your most important activities in the morning – exercise, writing in your journal, planning your day, etc. – so you increase your productivity and of course, your positivity. 2. Read good books You may be too busy to finish a book per day, but surely you can squeeze in a few minutes per day to read a few pages or maybe even an entire chapter. But, don’t just read any kind of book. Choose books where you’ll actually learn a new skill or two, or something that will help improve your life. 3. Extract through Drumming A great way to use Drumming is to "Drum Out" any negative thoughts or feelings you may have. The way to do this is to Imagine the Negativity inside of you as a Physical thing ie; colour, smoke, energy, liquid or any movable entity. Next you sit and relax and feel that Energy (or whatever you have chosen to use) move inside you. This is your negative stuff. Then just play a Rhythm on your Drum, and as you are striking the Drum, imagine the Energy coming from inside you (where ever you feel it) into your arms...down along your arms and into your hands...then coming out of your fingertips as you Drum. Visualize this Negative Energy bouncing off your Drum head and off into space. If you feel it's stuck or caught inside just Drum a little harder. This is a great and powerful way to release Negativity.   4. Smile and laugh There’s nothing wrong with being serious, but we should always find the time to smile and laugh every single day. Share a joke with your family, friends, and coworkers. Watch a funny TV show or go on YouTube to look at funny cat videos. There’s a reason why those kinds of videos go viral! People love them because it cheers them up! 5. Think happy thoughts Only you know what kind of thoughts make you happy. Whatever it is, try to conjure an image of that object, person, dream, goal, etc. whenever you feel down or when you start imagining negative scenarios. Learn to use your happy thoughts to block out all the negativity your mind conjures! 6. Count all your blessings Even the poorest person in the world has got something to be thankful for. Whether it be your family, friends, love, material wealth, success, etc. if it makes you happy then count it as a blessing. Write it down if you can so you don’t ever forget it. 7. Tell yourself to stop With self-awareness, you can easily tell yourself to STOP the moment you start feeling negative. When you feel like your thoughts are turning darker with each passing moment, and you feel rage, anger, sadness, fear, or other similar negative emotions intensifying, then you need to pause. Take a deep breath. Tell yourself to STOP. And when you tell yourself to STOP, then you better believe yourself. You can’t just say STOP, and then go on thinking negative thoughts. You’ve got to reign in those emotions and do your best to replace them with positive thoughts. 8. Don’t live in the past Negative people usually dwell on the past. We’ve all had bad things happen in our past, but it’s the negative thinkers who continue to get stuck in it. Whatever has happened in the past should stay in the past. You should learn to make peace with it so you can move forward. Getting closure is an important part of the process of learning to let go of the past. So, get it done as soon as you possibly can! 9. Talk to yourself positively Imagine yourself as your very own best friend. If your best friend was feeling down, you’d try to cheer them up, wouldn’t you? You wouldn’t leave them an emotional wreck. Instead, what you would do is you would do your best to cheer your friend up. You’d perhaps ask him or her to go on a walk to clear their head. Maybe even treat them to their favorite snack or something. Then you’d tell them it’s not the end of the world. When talking to yourself, remember to always use positive words. 10. Surround yourself with positive people If you’re constantly surrounded by negative people, you would be absorbing their collective negative energy, and before you know it, you’ll be thinking negatively all the time. You’d be doubting yourself, you’d be doubting others, you’d be doubting everybody. With positive people, however, you’ll experience the exact opposite. You’ll feel happier when you’re surrounded by positivity so seek out the kind of friends who would always cheer you up and motivate you. That's it for this blog, Please take care and Stay in Rhythm Eddie.
